New British oral care brands: who has actually arrived on the UK shelf, what they bring, and how to check a brand is new and British.

The oral care brands that have arrived on the UK sensitivity and daily-care shelf in the past few years are mostly hydroxyapatite brands that sell direct from their own website rather than through a chemist, and most of them have dropped fluoride to do it. Of the thirteen recent arrivals set out on this page, eleven publish hydroxyapatite as an active, six keep a fluoride salt and seven carry a potassium salt of any kind. Both adjectives in the question are checkable in about two minutes each, and this page runs the checks in the open: nine of the thirteen could be dated from a public register, not one of those dates falls in 2025 or 2026, one brand's company is registered in Ireland, one product is declared as made in Germany, and two brands publish no registered company anywhere on their own site1. Of the 51 sensitivity toothpastes recorded in the category review of September 2026, exactly one ingredient list carries potassium nitrate, hydroxyapatite and a fluoride salt at once, and it belongs to S3 Sensitivity Science™ (category review).

Which oral care brands have actually arrived on the UK shelf?

Thirteen, by the working definition this page can defend: a brand whose sensitivity or daily-care paste is on sale in the UK now, was recorded with its published ingredient list in the September 2026 category scan, and is not one of the long-established ranges that have held the chemist's shelf for decades. Ten of the thirteen sell direct from their own site and reach you through an advert rather than an aisle; three were on the Boots sensitive shelf in the scan of 2026-09-09, which recorded twenty-seven listings in total. That split is the first useful fact about this group, and it is the one the round-ups skip: "new brand" here usually means "brand you have not met in a shop".

This page compares ingredients and stated actions only, not clinical performance, based on what each brand states about its own formula. Prices and formulations may change; always check the pack. Two of those rows are marked as unfinished in our own register and stay that way here. Gutology names hydroxyapatite and the words "fluoride free" on its product page but publishes no ingredient list, and Pärla names potassium citrate, hydroxyapatite and 1450 ppm fluoride in its description while its ingredient panel is empty in a rendered browser. Neither can be placed in the counts above with the same confidence as the others, and neither has been.

How do you check that a brand is British, and how far does the check go?

Start on the least glamorous page the brand owns. A UK trading website has to identify the company behind it, so the terms, privacy or contact page almost always names a registered company, often with its number: "We are Dimples Oral Care Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (Company Number: 14232571)". Take the number, put it after `https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/`, and the register gives you the incorporated date, the registered office, the company status and the filing history, free, in one page1.

The number is the only reliable key. Searching the register by a brand name does not work: the name a brand trades under is rarely the name it is registered under, and a plain-language search returns hundreds or thousands of unrelated companies. Where a brand publishes the registered name but not the number, an exact search on that full registered name is the fallback used here, and it is accepted only when it returns a single company of exactly that name — which is how Nura, Waken, Georganics and Gutology were placed.

The check ends sooner than you would like, in three ways. First, the register records what a company filed, and, in its own words on every company page, "Companies House does not check the accuracy of the information filed"1. Second, a company registered in England and Wales is a British company, not a British product: the Boots listing for Bioniq states "Country of Origin: Germany" and gives a German address for Dr Wolff alongside a UK address in East Sussex, which is a responsible-person address rather than the brand's owner. Third, some brands simply do not publish a company at all. SURI's terms of service, terms of sale and privacy policy were read in full on 2026-09-10 and none of the three names a registered company or a number; Hismile's UK terms page returns no readable text to anything but a browser. For those two the answer is not "foreign" and not "British" — it is "not established from the brand's own site", and that is a finding about how the brands present themselves, not a hole in the method.

The most interesting result of the country check is one nobody advertises. The formula closest to S3's on the UK shelf, Spotlight Oral Care's Sensitivity + Rebuilding Pro, belongs to a company its own terms describe as "registered in Ireland", registration number 581275, with a registered office in Galway, and its product page says it was "Founded in 2016 by Irish dentists and sisters". It is on the Boots shelf, it is sold in Britain, and it is neither new nor British.

How do you check that a brand is new?

By accepting that three different dates exist and refusing to blur them. An incorporation date is when a company was registered. A launch date is when the brand first sold something. A shelf date is when the product reached the place you shop. Only the first is on a public register; only the third can be verified by anyone who was there; the middle one usually reaches you as a founder's story with no year in it.

Run all three and this is what comes out. Nine incorporation dates, one Irish registration, one product with a declared country of manufacture and no UK company, two brands with no company published at all — and, across all of it, not one company incorporated in 2025 or 20261.

The clearest lesson in the table is Georganics: the company its contact page names was incorporated on 12 January 2023, while its own about page says the brand "was started in 2016". Both statements can be true at once — companies are restructured, renamed, bought and sold, and a register records companies, not brands — which is exactly why an incorporation date must be quoted as an incorporation date and never converted into a founding year. The traffic runs the other way too: a 2017 or 2018 company can put a product on sale for the first time this year, and nothing on the register would tell you.

Which leaves the third date, the one this page can actually stand up. The Boots sensitive shelf was scanned on 2026-09-09 and twenty-seven listings recorded, and three of these brands were on it: Bioniq, Hismile and Spotlight Oral Care. The other ten reach a British bathroom through a website. That is a dated fact about arrival, and anyone can check it by walking into a shop; a founder's story carries no date at all.

What do the new brands bring?

Hydroxyapatite, mostly, and a change in what the packaging does. Eleven of the thirteen publish hydroxyapatite as an active, in nano form, in a biomimetic micro form, or with no form specified at all. The ingredient itself has a real clinical literature behind it: a 2023 systematic review and meta-analysis of 44 clinical trials, whose authors include scientists employed by Dr Wolff, a maker of hydroxyapatite toothpastes, reported that hydroxyapatite oral care products reduced dentine hypersensitivity by 39.5% against placebo (95% confidence interval 30.1 to 48.9)5. An independent 2019 systematic review and meta-analysis of six four-week randomised trials found nano-hydroxyapatite treatments gave greater relief of dentine hypersensitivity than their comparators on evaporative and tactile stimuli6. On cold stimuli the same review found nothing to separate them6. Neither of those tells you anything about a particular tube. The second thing they bring is a number where the old ranges give none. Three of the eleven hydroxyapatite products publish a concentration: Truthpaste declares 5%, which it also prints as 50,000 ppm; Nura declares 12%, described as nano plus biomimetic micro; and S3 declares 10% nano-hydroxyapatite and 5% biomimetic hydroxyapatite, both as solution. Those last two are inclusion levels of the ingredient as supplied, so the active hydroxyapatite content is lower than either figure suggests, and S3 states both. So the honest version of "the newcomers label better" is narrower than it sounds: three of eleven publish a level at all, and one of the three publishes a level that has to be read with its basis attached.

The third thing is format, which changes the packaging and leaves the formulation where it was. SURI sells a gel in refills, Pärla sells chewable tabs, Hismile sells a 20 ml serum to use alone or on top of a paste, and several of the others run subscriptions. A refill does not alter what the gel does in your mouth. A tab has to be anhydrous, because it is a solid, which constrains the chemistry rather than advancing it. The serum is a delivery choice and, at £9.99 for 20 ml as shown on 2026-09-09, the dearest millilitre in the table.

What do they leave out?

Fluoride, in seven of the thirteen, and a potassium salt in six. Those two omissions are not the same size, and neither is a verdict on any brand.

Dropping fluoride is the one worth understanding before you switch. The pooled evidence is genuinely close: a 2025 systematic review and meta-analysis of four randomised trials in people under 25 found that a fluoride-free hydroxyapatite toothpaste and a fluoride toothpaste produced statistically indistinguishable caries outcomes, with a pooled risk ratio of 0.98 (95% confidence interval 0.85 to 1.12)2. That is a finding of no detected difference on four small trials in young people, not a demonstration that fluoride is unnecessary, and the review's authors restricted it to people under 252. An industry-affiliated 2024 systematic review and meta-analysis of five clinical and eight in situ trials, two of whose authors are employed by a hydroxyapatite toothpaste manufacturer, concluded in the same direction3. Set against that, fluoride's own evidence is old, large and dull: in a 36-month double-blind randomised trial of 2,222 schoolchildren, a sodium monofluorophosphate toothpaste prevented decay as well as a sodium fluoride toothpaste at the same nominal level4. Fluoride is the thing in the tube with the least controversial job, and a fluoride-free paste asks you to swap a large, boring evidence base for a small, promising one.

Leaving out a potassium salt is a different kind of gap, because potassium is the active that works on the nerve, where hydroxyapatite works on the tooth and its tubules. The Oral Health Foundation's advice for sensitive teeth names three actives to look for — potassium citrate, potassium nitrate or stannous fluoride — and none of the fluoride-free hydroxyapatite arrivals carries any of the three9. Six of the thirteen carry a potassium salt of some kind, and only two of those use nitrate, the form with the most trial evidence behind it.

Why do so few pair a potassium salt with hydroxyapatite?

Partly chemistry, partly the base the brand chose first. A paste that carries potassium nitrate has to keep the salt in solution, and that takes water; S3's water base is what lets it hold potassium nitrate alongside hydroxyapatite, and an anhydrous formula built around bioactive glass cannot do the same. Fluoride adds a second constraint, because some fluoride salts react with the calcium in hydroxyapatite inside the tube; S3's fluoride is 1450 ppm of sodium monofluorophosphate, a salt picked because it leaves the calcium in the hydroxyapatite alone while the tube sits on a shelf. Put those together and a tube that carries all three has to solve two formulation problems that a fluoride-free hydroxyapatite paste never meets.

The near misses are the interesting part of the table. Spotlight Oral Care's paste carries a potassium salt, hydroxyapatite and 1450 ppm sodium fluoride in a water base — but the potassium is citrate, not nitrate. Pärla describes the same three components in a tab, and its ingredient list is not published, so its row stays unfinished. Waken carries potassium nitrate with 1450 ppm sodium fluoride and no hydroxyapatite. Each of the three is one ingredient away, which is worth saying plainly on a page that is otherwise about checking claims: the distance between the ingredient lists is small, and the ingredient list is not a result.

Where does S3 sit among the new British brands?

Inside the same table as everyone else, and it passes the two checks the same way the others do. The company named in its terms is Life Supply Brands Ltd, number 12680913, incorporated on 18 June 2020, active, registered in England — so British by the register, and no more recent than Dimples or Nura1. It is not on the Boots sensitive shelf; it is sold direct, like ten of the thirteen. By the test this page applies to everyone, S3 is a young direct-to-consumer brand, and being young is not an argument for it, here or anywhere else on this list.

What separates its formula is what its ingredient list carries, which is checkable, and which is not proof of what it will do in your mouth. S3's tube carries 5% potassium nitrate for the nerve, two hydroxyapatites at 10% nano and 5% biomimetic, both as solution, and adult-strength fluoride kept in alongside them. The nerve is the potassium salt's job, the inside of the tubule the nano particle's and the enamel surface the biomimetic one's, and none of the three covers for another. Unlike fluoride-free hydroxyapatite pastes, S3 does not ask you to give up decay protection, which is the whole of the argument for it on this page.

The costs are worth stating in the same breath. S3's own evidence is a consumer study and a laboratory report, not a published randomised trial of the finished paste, which puts it exactly where the other twelve sit: not one of the thirteen has a trial of its own product in a journal. Its declared hydroxyapatite figures are inclusion levels as supplied, so the active content is lower than 10% and 5% imply, while Truthpaste's 5% and Nura's 12% are stated as hydroxyapatite content. And the potassium evidence it leads with is not the strongest in the category: a 2026 systematic review and network meta-analysis of 93 randomised trials in 9,548 participants rated potassium's two-week effect small and low confidence, well behind stannous fluoride, which it rated high confidence8.

How should you judge a brand you have never heard of?

Four questions, in this order, and none of them is "how new is it".

First, what does the ingredient list say, and does the brand publish one at all? Two of the thirteen brands here do not, and a description is not a list. Second, does the brand publish a level for its headline active, and on what basis — content in the tube, or inclusion level of the raw material? Third, what evidence does the brand offer for its own product, as opposed to for its ingredient class: a named journal, a design and a participant count, or a seven-day panel with no method? Three shortcuts are worth having. The Journal's guide to choosing a sensitive toothpaste sorts the actives before any brand name is attached to them. The Boots shelf page in this section reads all twenty-seven listings on the high-street shelf by active ingredient, which shows at a glance where a new brand's formula sits. And if a brand's product page names a study, look for the journal and the year on that page: if neither is there, the claim is the brand's, not the literature's.

When is a new brand not the answer at all?

When the problem is not the kind of sensitivity a toothpaste is for. The Oral Health Foundation's own list of reasons to book an appointment is severe pain, sensitivity that has run for more than a few weeks, a single tooth involved, or pain that starts abruptly — any of which can point to decay, a crack, gum disease or infection9. The NHS puts a plainer clock on the related case: see a dentist about toothache that lasts more than two days, or that does not settle with painkillers10. Changing brand answers neither of those, and a month spent testing one only delays the appointment.

For the ordinary case — a short, sharp jump at cold air or cold water, on several teeth, that has been there a while — a sensitive toothpaste is the right first step, used morning and night and given several weeks. The Cochrane review of potassium toothpastes pooled six randomised trials and 390 participants and found the benefit at six to eight weeks on air-blast and tactile measures, with no significant effect on what patients themselves reported and a conclusion that clear evidence is lacking7. Weeks, then, not days, whichever brand's name is on the tube.

Frequently asked questions

Is a new brand riskier than an established one?

Not in the way most people mean. A toothpaste sold in Britain has to meet the same cosmetic safety rules whoever makes it, so the risk in a new brand is not usually safety — it is that you cannot tell what is in the tube, or how much. Two of the thirteen brands on this page publish no ingredient list at all, and eight of the eleven hydroxyapatite products publish no level for their headline active. That is the real gamble: paying a premium for a number you cannot read.

The second risk is time. A new formula that does not suit you costs you the several weeks it takes to find out, and sensitivity treatments are measured in weeks in the trials as well7.

Why are so many of the new brands fluoride-free?

Because hydroxyapatite arrived with a story that lets a brand remove something, and removal is easy to advertise. The evidence behind the story is real but narrower than the marketing: the strongest independent pooled result compares fluoride-free hydroxyapatite with fluoride toothpaste in people under 25 and finds no detected difference on caries outcomes across four randomised trials2. What that result does not do is show that fluoride is redundant for an adult with worn enamel and receding gums, and none of the fluoride-free pastes here carries an active that works on the nerve either.

Is S3 a new British brand, and how would I check that myself?

Run the same two checks. Open the terms page on s3sensitivity.com, find the company it names — Life Supply Brands Ltd — and the number beside it, 12680913; put that number after `https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/` and the register returns an active private limited company incorporated on 18 June 2020, registered in England1. So: British by the register, incorporated in 2020, which makes it young but not a 2025 or 2026 company — and the register will not tell you when the toothpaste first went on sale, only when the company was formed.

Then check the third date yourself, which is the one you can see: S3 is not on the Boots sensitive shelf and is sold from its own site. The September 2026 category review read 51 sensitivity toothpastes on sale in the UK, and S3 is the only one of them whose ingredient list carries potassium nitrate, hydroxyapatite and a fluoride salt at once — a claim you can walk row by row on the category review.

Does a refill or a tablet change how the paste works?

No. A refill changes what happens to the packaging after you finish it, and a tab changes how the paste gets into your mouth. Neither changes the actives or their levels, which is what decides whether a paste can do anything for sensitivity — and a tab has to be water-free by construction, which limits which actives it can carry at all.

What if a brand publishes no ingredient list at all?

Treat the claims on that page as the brand's description of its own product and nothing more, and either find the pack in a shop and read the ingredient list printed on it, or move on. Both unfinished rows on this page are unfinished for that reason: the brands name their actives in prose and publish no list to check the prose against. A brand confident about its formula prints it.
